Canadian soprano to christen Avalon's new ship
26 FEB 2010: Avalon Waterways’ new river cruise ship, the Avalon
Felicity, will be christened next month in the Netherlands by award
winning Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman, who was most recently
seen and heard around the world as she sang at the Olympic opening
ceremonies. Brueggergosman’s magnificent soprano sound has been
described as “a superb voice capable of just about everything.” She is
now a major international talent, who also won a Juno Award for
Classical Album of the Year in 2008.

Passengers ill on Caribbean cruise
26 FEB 2010: Celebrity Cruises says about 350 people are responding
well to medication after getting sick on a cruise to the Caribbean that
departed from South Carolina. The ship sailed out of Charleston last
week and it was not known whether any Canadians were on board.

Tampa too, says Norwegian Cruise Lines
26 FEB 2010: Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that its 2011/12
winter/spring deployment includes two new seasonal homeports: Tampa,
Florida and Rome (Civitavecchia), making it the first time Norwegian
has initiated voyages from these cities. In addition, for the first
time since 1999 the cruise line will visit Israel.

Carnival will buy 2 ships for its Princess Cruises
19 FEB 2010: Cruise operator Carnival Corp. said this week it has
agreed to acquire two ships for its Princess Cruises Brand. Italian
shipbuilder Fincantieri will build two 3,600-passenger cruise ships,
scheduled to enter service in the spring of 2013 and the spring of 2014.

Camera recovered from ocean after fifteen months
19 FEB 2010: A Spanish fisherman, Benito Estevez was trawling the ocean
last month when he discovered a camera in his nets. Though the camera
was damaged beyond repair, the photo memory card was intact. The
images showed the QE2 in the background and Estevez contacted Cunard
and the BBC who amazingly managed to trace the owners.
